One of the main advantages of making money selling domain names is the fact that it doesn’t require a lot of initial investments. It costs you nothing more than a few bucks for registering the domain name. Beyond that, it’s just a matter of doing some research to find and register domains that can be sold for a profit. And that’s why selling domain names is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to make money online.
Separating trash from treasure
The most important part of making money with you domain names is determining if a domain name is a worth buying and reselling. You can just register any nonsense domain and think your gonna make good money selling them later. Another word, if you want to make money with domain names, you must have domains that appeal to others. But, how would you find out if a domain name is trash or a real treasure?…To do that, you must think like others. You must put yourself in other people’s shoe. Here is an example:
Think of yourself as a website owner who has a website about making money online, you go to buy a domain name for your website. You come across 2 domain sellers who have a few domain. The first one has domains like “TradingForex.com”, “MyLifeToBe.com”, “Gardening101.com”, “BestTvShows.com” and other names that don’t have anything to do with the general theme of an online money making website. But, the other guys has domains like “MakingMoneyOnline.com”, “MakeMoney.com”, “HowToMakeMoney.com” and etc. Which one would you rather pay for? Of course, the seconds guy’s domains. Domains that have your keywords in them and are in line with the general them of your website?… I am sure you and most people would even pay 10 times more than it cost to buy the first guy’s domain, to buy the second guy’s domains.
That’s the whole point, do your research and don’t just pay to register any domain names in hopes of selling it for a profit. You will not make money, in fact I am pretty sure you will lose money on that. Instead, think like your potential buyers in different niches. Register domains that are valuable, domains that make sense, domains that tell people what the website is all about without them having to even visit the website first.
Of course there are exceptions too. We all know of successful websites with crazy domain names that don’t have anything to do with the them of the website, like amazon.com, or even ebay. They don’t tell you anything about what the website is all about, but these are exceptions, and that’s a whole another subject. I would suggest if you are a beginner in domain selling, I would suggest you stay away from domains like that. It would be hard to find buyers for such domain names. Yeah, sure, now that we know ebay, anybody would pay a lot of money for that domain name, but, think of it before ebay was ebay. Do you think you would want to buy that name for an action site?…
Different domains – different prices
We all know about crazy prices that people pay for domain names. One example would be the Fund.com domain which was bought for $10 million from a domain seller who originally paid probably $10 to register the domain name. There are many more examples like that. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you are going to make that kind of money with every domain you register and resell. On average, most domains sell from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. But, the beauty of domain name selling is that you never know. You may have a domain name that to you and most other people would be worthless, but to another person who sees a great opportunity in using that domain name to lunch a great idea into a money making business, it could be worth thousands or even millions of dollars. That’s the day when you get lucky!
Domain selling business is kind of like dumpster diving. Specially doing it as a business like actually going out there and trying to find good domains names, whether they have expired or have never been registered before. You look through hunderds dumpsters with a lot of items in them. Most of those items are just trash, but once in a while you come across something that is truly a treasure and worth a lot of money. So, if you can separate tho trash from the treasure, you can make money selling domain names online.
