Yeah paid surveys are a good way to make some extra cash. And as far as I know, its not against ad sense if you have ads on your site from paid survey sites that you are a member of. Thats totally ok with Google. Its almost like affiliate marketing. I would suggest you get into it if you have some free time, it will be an easy way to make some extra cash, plus some surveys sites rewards you with gift cards like amazon gift certificate and etc which is kind of cool if your like me and amazon.com addict, lol. They worked on a point system and you often had to sign up for newsletters in order to qualify, I ended up being constantly spammed. The other reason I have avoided paid survey's is because Google Adsense is against it.
