Patrick Swayze, Ted Kennedy, Kanye West And Joe Wilson, What A World Of Difference?

By satrap | 9:39 PM

What is happening to us and our society? what’s  happened to our basic human values?. have you looked at news lately? hove you being paying attention to what is happening in our society, specially with our so called “role models”( i don’t even know why their called “role model” and celebrated, instead of thousands of people who sacrifice their daily lives in order to help children and less fortunate people around the world)? let me give you some example to bring you up to speed.  last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift was having her moment for her unlikely win of best female video that all of a sudden, kanye west, “mr pay attention to me” stormed towards her and grabbed the microphone from her hand to “protest Swift’s winning and announcing that Beyonce should’ve won this category, because her “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” was “one of the best videos of all time.” here is another one of these shining moments for our celebrated personalities. this one happened in US Open Tennis 2009, Serena Williams received a point penalty after screaming at a line judge for a calling a foot fault on her previous serve and telling the judge ” I swear to God, I’m … taking this ball and shoving’ it down your …’ throat… .” and ending it with a ” mother …” punctuation, and how can we forget  Rep. Joe Wilson’s  shining moment last week at the presidents joint address to congress, when he interrupt the president and shouts ” you lie ” ?

Do you see a pattern here? perhaps a pattern of behavior that is expected of children and not adult specially the ones that we try to look up to and tell our children to do as well? there are countless number of these kind of ” misbehaver ” that are acted by our so called “roll models”, but the point i am trying to make is, why and how these people allow themselves to act in such a childish way? i know and understand the argue of ” well we are all human and humans make mistake sometimes. “, yes they let their emotions get the best of them once in a while, just like any of us, but i think this is just an excuse to behave the way they sometimes do. don’t you think when they are a public servant, an athlete or an entertainer and they want people to know and like them, that they have an even greater responsibility? they know and love the fact that, children and sometimes even adult look up to them and hold them as their heroes, role model or a kind of person to be when they grow up or whatever. well this gives them a bigger responsibility, a responsibility that includes behaving like a role model or hero, at least while in the public and knowing that the whole nation (sometimes even world) is watching your every move and what comes out of your mouth.

” Don’t be rude “, ” Be polite! ” , these are one of the first lesson that we learn as a child, how can we forget such a basic rule of being a civil human being and act as if there is no such a thing as politeness and respect for others. unfortunately, it seems like our society is following a path to a cult that has no place for respecting others. it is all about me, just me, me ,me. i mean kanye can talk and voice his opinion every day if he wants to, but he cant allow Taylor Swift have her one moment, he has to steal it from her because it should be all about kanye west. there is a good chance that it wasn’t even abut Beyonce and her song (which i think she is a fantastic artist), but the fact that west just could not take the ” not being in the pot light for a minute “. same thing with REP.Joe Wilson, he is a congress man for crying out load, his job is to voice his and his peoples opinion every day, but that’s not enough, because how could he not be rude and interrupt the president and shout out ” you lie ” ? here is the shucking part, now they are arguing that ” well its true, Obama lied “. what? but it dos not even matter if its true or false, why cant you get it ? its about the way it was said, the way it was represented, not about if its true or false.

Some might argue that we are making a big deal out of a simple human made mistake, but the truth is, that these “mistakes” are way more than a normal mistake, at least in terms of what and who they affect. these mistakes or misbehaviors, call it what you want, cost us and our children a lot more than a mistake made by me and you in our daily lives. they cost us our moral and standards that we hold high as our values as a civilized society.i just hope that our society will wake up soon and realize what has become of our morals and culture. we are human begin, supposedly the most intelligent creature on earth, we have to be moving forward day after day to become a better person not to step backward and dehumanize our selves.

I will be happy to hear your thought on this subject, so please don’t hold back or hesitate to tell me what you think. agree or disagree, doesn’t matter, we all have opinion and need to voice it, specially when it comes down to matters that effect our lives and define who we are and should be as a society.

Last minuet note!
As i was wrapping up this piece, i heard the news about Patrick Swayze’s death. it is so sad and painful. it just made me think for a second, what if there were more real role models like Patrick Swayze and lets not forget ted Kennedy, who touched so many lives in his life time of service. a man who even his rivals and so called enemies respected and mourn his death, because of what they describe as his respectfulness and politeness towards any human being, even if he disagreed with them. may both of these extraordinary souls rest in peace.
